Brian, RE: "but universities in general are not places of great innovation, except of course in perhaps a laboratory." University research (CS, eng) is the absolute best stuff to commercialize. Goodies galore in there. But maybe that's what you meant when you said labs. Lots of successful companies came out of Berkeley & Stanford & MIT, etc. Beefing that stuff up, would get this country out of the doldrums and people would stop talking about their offshoring concerns. The next up cycle, which I believe we are currently in, hopefully doesn't make people forget about this need. Regards, Amy J
