There are many pts worth examining there, redfish.

First -- in any act of ministry -- whether it be financial counseling -- fixing cars -- clothing -- feeding the poor -- visting the sick, it is possible to make the specific ministry the focus, instead of God.

Also, many ministries, do require the stewardship of monetary means -- effort and attention must be given to this -- first, to do what is right in God's sight and second, that nothing happens which brings ill-repute on the ministry.

The primary function of the body of Christ is the same as was the primary function of Jesus Christ when He walked on the earth -- "to seek and to save the lost." If any ministry, does not have that at its heart -- the motivation and inclination to point those ministered to -- in the direction of Lord Jesus -- then, most likely it will also fail in its "subordinate causes."

But back to John 2 and the cleansing of the Temple.

I really think this was an action under the old covenant -- meant to pt to a new testament truth.

Jesus doesn't just cleanse the old temple and restore worship there -- He cleanses the new temples -- our bodies -- from "mercantilist" tendencies that would draw us away from honest and sincere devotion to the worship of God.

One another level, He -- through His death on the cross -- was the only one who could make our bodies -- temples -- "fit" as a place to worship God.

If we get this right -- we will not be in danger of the distortions you alluded to -- as congregations of the Lord's people.

One thing we can also see from John 2 -- sometimes the pollution of our temples requires drastic action -- which Jesus is not afraid to take -- in order to restore true worship.
