You really get the sense that SA is not a country in any sense that we understand it. It's a company town, owned and operated by a corrupt family firm, who keep themselves in business because they have bought out the priests to tell everybody that it's G-d's will to obey the bosses. The people know the bosses are pigs, but they're very religious and they daren't disobey the priests to organize a strike. So they are quietly going crazy.
