I still can't figure out why the moon isn't at the top of the space colonization priorities.

Lots of energy and raw materials. A place where one can do industry and science and build machines for getting to the rest of the solar system.

I think all of NASA, including primary planning, should be contracted and sub contracted out. Get space commercialized as fast as possible.
