I don't disagree with anything you said! TV is a scourge. I hate it, and what it does to children (my personal observation is that children who watch even a medium amount of television are different in ways that I don't consider good than those who watch none), in particular. It's nasty, brutish and on all the time.

You'd love Survivor, I'm sure, it you'd watch from the beginning. How could anyone not be interested in human behavior (even if a lot of what we see has been managed behind the scenes.)
And Apprentices? I'll bet you'd get interested in that, too.
My TiVo is fixed, btw. (It was just the remote, and the man I had bought it from on eBay sent me a new one.) If you have a TiVo, you never have to see a commercial, and you never surf, you just tape what you might want to see when you're in a passive mood. Like Judge Judy, for example. What an amazingly rude (and smart) person!
