You might be surprised to know how many American friends you have who share their home with chickens (or did). Every once in a while, we had chicks which needed raising in the house. Of course, when we first got started, we went down to the post office and picked up a couple dozen 2 or 3 day chicks which come without mothers to raise them , so we had to do it. Occasionally, later one, something would happen to a mother, or a baby might get an injury,or Malila would want to buy a few at the feed store, so we would raise them in the house, too. One was a little banty named Snowy, who was pretty much hand raised by Malila. She began to come into the house on her daily inspection tours, and, one day, I found an egg behind the bath tub. We decided to leave it. Eventually, she started sitting on a whole nest full of eggs, and hatched them out; at this point, we moved her to an outside cage until the babies got somewhat bigger. She actually pulled this stunt several times, B4 she moved out as part of the divorce. I noticed that, after about 2 weeks of indoor chicks, I began to get asthma. It's ok to raise them as a novelty, but I'd be in trouble if they lived in the house all the time.
