Nguyen Cao Ky meets the press

Nguyen Cao Ky, ex-vice president of the former Sai Gon regime and now an American citizen, said his aspiration was to contribute his might to his native country.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Viet Nam become another Asian tiger," the 72-year-old Ky told a press meeting at the Sheraton Sai Gon Hotel on Thursday.

Ky arrived in HCM City on Wednesday on his first visit to Viet Nam in more than 28 years after his departure from Sai Gon in 1975. He claimed to have shed tears when he saw HCM City from the aircraft just before he landed.

Ky said he wanted to join others in making Viet Nam a prosperous country.

"I have lived abroad for nearly 30 years and now I would like to spend the next 30 contributing to economic development in Viet Nam," he said.

"My first priority is building my country's economy, I have no intention of further involvement in politics."

"If I am offered an opportunity, I would like to stay the rest of my life in Viet nam,"

Ky told Viet Nam News Agency's English-language daily Viet Nam News.-
