High relative to historical standards. High in the sense that an enormous portion of the nations is wealth is being controlled by government. Yes also high relative to the staggering deficts because the taxes are much higher then the deficits although both are too high.

OK...look, forget your naive % GDP historical standards argument your clever politician of choice is feeding you. Clearly you could not run your household by running up debt forever, but forget that too. Forget even social programs for the poor. Here's the more important issue...In 10 years retirement of the baby boomers is in full swing....at no time has it been more critical to have fiscal discipline, a balanced budget, a surplus. I noticed in your profile that you are in your 30s. Guess what!!! You and your children (and mine) will be the worst hit by an America with a staggering debt liability and a gutted SS fund that could have been sured up, but both of which have been embittered by tax cuts doled out to win elections, of which the typical American is getting crumbs, and 1% of the top earners the loaf. Are you in the top 1% Tim? If not, why are you arguing for these tax cuts?

Solving this problem takes courage. The democrats out there saying that they are going to roll back cuts are swimming against the political tide. Probably committing suicide...but still sticking to the honest line...bush bets that most folks get so happy with today's crumbs they won't think about tomorrow...sadly he's right....but 1 and 1 don't come out 4 Tim.
