Yesterday's suicide bombing at the Erez crossing to Gaza had two novelties worth noting. First, it was first time Sheikh Yassin approved of a woman suicide bomber. For this, even this rigid ideologue will approve female equality it seems. Second, Fatah (not Tanzim) claimed joint credit with Hamas, and PA foreign minister Nabil Sha'ath said that the PA has the power to stop these attacks, but won't until Israel changes its policies.

Until now, Fatah and the PA would ritually condemn the suicide bombings and claim it was nothing to do with them. They created the separate Tanzim and Al Aqsa brigades for the sake of deniability. It seems they've got tired of the ritual. Now they are just admitting that the suicide bombers are from them. It's not like this admission will change any minds in Europe, America or Israel at this point in time.

Of such little steps are big political shifts made.
