Yep --- (ceuterus paribus) --- the eighties and nineties look pretty good on the whole, (as certainly do the fifties and sixties... but for very different reasons.)

The seventies however... show just how much harm an inflationary spiral can do to the economy --- one of the reasons I'm so concerned about the run-away deficit now, and the tidal wave of liquidity.

The seventies effect was so bad that --- measured from 1970 to now --- there has been no real increase in average wages, and the middle class has declined.
