Dow closes higher on GE outlook
Nasdaq hits 30-month high on Juniper results

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- U.S. stocks closed higher Friday in a choppy session for blue chips, with General Electric leading the gainers on its upbeat 2004 outlook, while the Nasdaq Composite surged to a new 30-month high on Juniper Networks' strong fourth-quarter earnings.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ($INDU: news, chart, profile) closed at session highs, up 47 points, or 0.4 percent, at 10,600.51. The benchmark index has posted eight consecutive weeks of gains.

In the last week, the Dow industrials gained 142 points, or 1.35 percent.

The Nasdaq Composite ($COMPQ: news, chart, profile) closed up 31.38 points, or 1.5 percent, at 2,140.46, its best level since July 3, 2001, when it closed at 2,140.80. The tech-rich index posted its sixth week of consecutive gains.
