Bush radio address a State of Union warmup

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- President Bush used his weekly radio address from Washington Saturday to prepare the nation for his upcoming State of the Union message.

"This coming week I will report to the Congress and the American people on the state of our union," Bush said.

"Over the past few years, America has been confronted with great challenges, and the American people have responded with strength and compassion and confidence."

Bush reviewed progress domestically and internationally, politically and economically. He also promised to continue current policies to build on what he called his achievements.

"On Tuesday night I will outline the steps we must take to meet the goals of this nation," he said. "We will work to expand opportunities for all Americans to own their own business.

"We'll press forward on an agenda of economic growth so that everyone who wants to work can find a job."
