When confronted with such bullheadedness, my typical response is, "Where is it written"? Back when I was still working, I would drive my managers batty. "Sure. I believe in following the rules. Just show me where it is written"? In this case, I would like to see the verse in the Qu'ran that says they can't. The nice thing about that is arguing from the Qu'ran is like arguing from the Bible. You can find a verse to make almost any argument you want.

But, yes. Your larger point that women's rights are under assault where the US is "bringing democracy", is well taken.
