Yeah, it's a sickening sight watching that wounded man taking multiple 30mm rounds. I wondered what the range of the helicopter was when it fired on the Iraqis because it seemed that they either didn't know the Apache was there or they didn't care. I've since read that they would have been able to hear the Apache before it fired and would have been aware that it was observing them. If that's the case it certainly seems that they didn't think they would be perceived as doing anything wrong.
