Colin L. Powell said: .... that Hussein "has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction."

What is "significant" with respect to WMD's? The ability to overkill the Earth's population? And - is there anything in Powell's words to indicate that Hussein wasn't working on acquiring such "significant" capability?

The war has made America more hated in the world and made the war on terrorism harder to win. As Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said in announcing the latest higher alert: "Al Qaeda's continued desire to carry out attacks against our homeland is perhaps greater now than at any point since September 11th."

Aha... so - taken in the context proposed by the Senator - the Iraqi campaign mightily raised the al Qaeda's desire to hurt America... So, it would follow that it is possible for us to kiss up to the extremists in such a way as to make them no longer want to attack us. If they get to like us, maybe they will dump Qutb and become more peaceful... Very nice to know.

Senator Ted seems as good as ever at negotiating murky waters... but please count me out... I ain't following him.
