the Pope [Vatican] was working on acquiring a significant WMD capability?

LOL! That's a good one... Saddam Hussein of Iraq - not the Pope of Vatican - was the one who overrun Kuwait some years previously, and who used poisonous gas against his own citizens, etc. The criminal President of Iraq was under obligation to prove that he is no longer working on WMD's - and to account for the disposal of the existing supplies. Instead, after playing games with the inspectors for a few years, he simply threw them out.
