PMFJI >>> Schmidt did say this, the market didn't understand him yet.

About the 'confilict' between IBM & Novell over NDS ... I disagree, there is no real conflict ... there happen to be many 'solutions' to the problem ... NDS is the one in the lead now, IBM has several different solutions that they support, we should expect that they will continue to do this ... ie >>> sell the customers what they want.

There are other very 'interesting' things happening ... don't forget that Intel works with Novell on Wolf Mountain clustering SW components, and that Intel is one of the biggest players pushing 'real Java' ... Not the MSFT proprietary Java ... wonder how that plays in Redmond?

I don't see an obstacle to an IBM buyout from the technolgy or product perspective ... but do NOT believe that Novell is ready to be a willing participant ... If Novell ever does seem like it really is in play ... I think that Intel will want to buy them, Intel is the player that can get the most benefit from Novell's technology with the least amount of waste & overlap.

Imagine a PC with a 'embedded Java', 'embedded NDS', 'embedded Clustering support' .... from a technology point of view all it would take is some minor modifications to the BIOS and some additional ROM capacity ... hardware cost (at production levels) would be less than $10 per Motherboard .... who could pull that off ... Intel, and not many others ... BUT, ... it might make Pope Bill mad at Andy!

So ... hard to tell right now how things are going to turn out ... but, it does seem that more people are starting to wake up to the knowledge of the value in Novell's technologies ... SO, if Novell doesn't start producing some real revenue from those assets soon ... someone else probably will ... the 'shakeouts' and re-alignments of alliances have to progress a little further before something big happens ... but I don't think it will take too much longer.
