Prior to 9/11, these units were never used even once to hunt down terrorists who had taken American lives.

The above is simply stated, "Not True"...Not even close.

This is a good read about politics and SF Operations.
I do not agree with all of it...I do agree with much of it.

The author implies nothing has changed. That ain't true either. He fails to note that since 9/11, we deployed SF into just over 80 countries. We have SF operators in over 40 countries right now. Average A team deployment rate is 85%. (The current SF divorce rate is outrageous too.)

That does not include contract missions. Every former SFer has been receiving multiple overseas job offers.

The deployment of our SF units cannot go any higher at present strength levels. To maintain deployment strength, SFers have been locked in with no discharges and no retirements allowed.

Recruiting has been stepped up...and a few more trainees are in school. But it takes years to get a guy up to his max.

clinton's military cuts included an entire Special Forces active duty Group, the reserve Special Forces Group and some separate very highly classified and extremely well-trained forward deployed A teams. Also some Civil Affairs and PsyOp units that work with SF. It was nearly a 35% chop. And it was done while terrorist attacks against the US were accelerating.
