'establishment' was never meant to connote anti-religious sentiment. Its FREEDOM of Religion.

The laws were passed because the vast majority of the people who supported them were religious and did want to establish religion in their lives.

What I'm trying to tell you is only that You're using the word, establish, incorrectly. "Establish" when speaking of the Constitution, means a government established religion, not a religion that people design and implement for themselves. It is a term of art in that context. You are employing the word in it's common usage, which is confusing.
