Not so unusual as the US is centrist, logical, moderate as a whole. That's why elections are so close, 60% being a landslide.

Bingo.. Nice observation... (for some others out there, it's still not obvious)..

But the key to democracy, IMO, is incrementalist policies where any extremist position must first be "blessed" by the mainstream..

What I find strange, is how the extremists of both the left and the right sound so much alike.

Because they both rely upon emotion, not facts or logic.
