From today's WSJ - if Dean slips and Edwards doesn't catch on down south, Clark could be sitting in the catbird seat. Kerry will have a tough time connecting with a southern audience:

"Mr. Clark is betting that this year's unusually tight primary calendar, which quickly takes the nomination race to other parts of the country, will create a new dynamic. He is counting on finishing strong enough in New Hampshire to propel him into the seven state contests held a week later, Feb. 3. Those votes include culturally conservative states such as South Carolina and Oklahoma, where voters could favor Mr. Clark's Southern military profile.

Mr. Clark has invested heavily in those states. He spent Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with African-American voters in Columbia, S.C. American Research Group polls show Mr. Clark running second behind Mr. Dean in both South Carolina and Oklahoma."
