The kid was in a hell of a strong position until he flippantly demanded ten grand. That weakened his case and helped Mr. Softie.

They'll settle it quietly and for undisclosed terms. Microsoft already has a black eye over this, and they don't need a bloody nose to go with it. At the same time, they don't want to encourage everyone to go figure out a way to raid their treasury by registering look-alike domains. That's what they should've in the first place, since going public with it resulted in:

"Microsoft's legal department may be busier than they anticipated during the next few months, because in the past four days all the top level domain extensions for mikerowesoft (.co.uk, .net, .org and .tv) have been snapped up. Mikerowesoft.tv has been put up for sale on eBay."

I'd say the legal department got caught sleeping at the wheel this time.
