Bill,
I worked for McCarthy in Milwaukee in the 68 primary campaign. There were few radicals and many mainstream students who were fed up with LBJ, the lies and the war. Most of us, whether we liked it or not, were prepared to switch to RFK as defeating LBJ and Nixon were the prime objective.
Many of the deaniacs had to cringe last night at deans apparent insane rant after his stunning defeat. How hard would it be for a majority of them to fall away to guys like kerry, edwards and clark if there was a belief that they were electable?? Not hard at all imo espccially after last night. Remember the hard core deaniacs who come to a primary state like NH are not the voters. Think goldwater as the exception that proves the rule about party suicide. mike
