Bob, I want to make it clear that I did not hear anything about pricing pressure. That is my suspicion only.
Allow me to think out loud here:
Brocade has really not been doing very well, and I suspect that Qlogic and Mcdata are taking switch market share based on price and performance. Emulex is also competing in that space. Qlogic was the leader in lowering the prices of high performance switches, and I think they will continue that strategy. Mcdata last quarter missed their revenue numbers because EMC demanded lower prices and Mcdata initially refused.
So if Qlgc's FC revenues were up so nicely, why was their overall revenue less than last quarter and that quarter less than the prior one?
It must be SCSI revenues dropping significantly. I heard what Desai said on the CC, and I beleive him about the slow ramp at Hitachi Data Systems.
As an investor, I must ask, "What else is going on?" What is happening in the overall market? Why could the HDC shortfall not be made up elsewhere?
I do not have all the answers.
IMHO.
