Semi Firms' Revenue Could Eclipse 2000 Peaks
Forbes.com staff, 01.20.04, 12:55 PM ET

NEW YORK -

Applied Materials (nasdaq: AMAT - news - people ), KLA Tencor (nasdaq: KLAC - news - people ), Novellus (nasdaq: NVLS - news - people ) and Lam Research (nasdaq: LRCX - news - people ) all are poised to eclipse the peak levels of revenue they reported in calendar year 2000 by more than 50%, according to Deutsche Bank. The research firm said its prediction was based in part on the theory that revenue growth in the sector is driven by additions of capacity and said all these firms have increased their capacity. Deutsche Bank noted that semiconductor equipment companies have adopted an aggressive approach to the current cycle of improved order levels, because they are uncertain how long the positive phase will last. It described these companies as "attempting to pull revenue in and deliver tools in very short order." Applied Materials was down 22 cents at $24.19, KLA Tencor down 15 cents at $61.95, Novellus unchanged at $42.44 and Lam Research down 49 cents at $33.75.
