I find it amusing that people single out WMT because they are the biggest and easiest target.
Go to your mom and pop store and you will find the same "made in china" or India merchandise that WMT carries but due to cost inefficiencies, their prices are just higher. Even the domestic suppliers of WMT admit that they were forced to cut waste that they didn’t even know they had until prodded.
FWIW, I shopped at mom and pop style stores when I was stationed in a small town with no alternatives and found most to be snobs and costs extreme. Once they built a shopko and WMT in Boise, I made the 45 minute drive ad despite the gas costs, I still came out ahead and found the service much better. A WMT finally was built in our town and yes it forced the little store out of business. Sorry but it was for the better and everyone I knew was happy that the local gouging was over.
FWIW, while I am not impressed by Sam's club and agree some of the WMT products are inferior, I don't see much difference between most of their stuff and that of other retailers. I bought a CD rack from TGT and it was broken before I got it home. Sears has slid downhill as well.
Made in China is NOT a WMT phenomenon, it is going to happen regardless.
In this era of huge consumer debt, any break they can get on prices is a good thing in my book. A little knowledge and research can keep a person from buying an inferior product and if that is all WMT offers, then look elsewhere but for everyday generic items like stuff from PG etc, I don't see what is wrong with it.
As far as buying American, give me a break. High school dropouts that think they should be able to command $20 an hour for unskilled labor are in for a shock. Any company that pays that wage I won’t invest in. You want to make money, get an education and earn it. Don't expect to drop out of school, join a union and then think it is a right to be over paid. I say ship all those jobs overseas and build a better society of educated skilled labor in high end jobs.
Just my view,
Good Luck,
