rruff,
Thank you for your response, you make some good points. It's difficult, sometimes, to know what decision today, will prove to be the best one down the road.
I'm no scholar on any level, but I am a student of human nature. We humans mostly muddle along through our daily lives meeting our short-term goals and waiting for some version of a winning lotto ticket. We are all flawed.
But every now and then, some of us are confronted with an event that challenges our courage and defines our character.
What we need in this country right now is a leader. Someone who can set an example, who can inspire us and bring us together. I think it's pretty obvious that the current administration is not doing that. I recall, immediately after 9/11, looking to President Bush for leadership and comfort. What happened that day transcended politics. However, it's now over 2 years down the road and we are as divided and polarized as we've ever been.
When I look at the contenders for the office of President of the United States, I look for the raw qualities that portend the ability to make hard choices that involve sacrifice and rising above personal preferences for the greater good.
My point in all this is that when I look at Kerry and Clark (and John McCain), I see men who have proven their courage and their ability and willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice. They may be flawed, but they have the proven potential to be what this country desperately needs.
I haven't decided yet, who to support in this election. But I'm frightened for my country.
