Do you go to a movie based on reviews?

The reason I ask is because I don't.

I generally like the movies reviewers hate and hate the moves reviewers like.

That's why I don't put much stock in recommendations and apparently neither do Iowans.

I mean just based on recommendations, Howard Dean (search) was the guy.

He got the trifecta -- sort of like The New York Times, Newsweek and TIME saying they all loved the movie: Al Gore, Bill Bradley and Tom Harkin all say Dean was the guy.

Iowans collectively said, "We don't think so. We'll make up our own minds, thank you.”

Not even Iowa hero Jimmy Carter turned heads for Dean -- which says something about endorsements and movie reviewers: They don't mean squat. Not to me, anyway.

You know, "Along Came Polly" got horrible reviews, but it's the No. 1 movie in America right now.

Howard Dean got great reviews, but he's the No. 3 candidate in America right now.

Lesson learned: Over-the-top movies rate and over-the-top candidates do not.
