If it hadn't been for those environmentalists that you love to hate The "Environmentalists I love to hate" were not the ones that care about clean air or water. They used people who did as "front groups" to sell their real desire, the elimination of mankind. They just don't like people. Mixed with them are refugee Socialists who are looking for a way to get the "Commanding Heights" approach to Government back in fashion. These groups were able to get control of funding and create a "Political Science" to back up their desires. So today we are reduced to dealing with the Environment on a Political basis, with Left and Right positions. Too bad. The truth gets left in the dust.
