FONAR Installs Stand-Up MRI #27 at LifeScan Minnesota StandUp MRI, First in Midwest
Wednesday January 21, 8:02 am ET
Grand Opening Event Set for 7 PM, January 22nd Featuring the 'Creator of MRI'

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2004--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today the installation of FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI #27 at LifeScan Minnesota StandUp MRI, 5023 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, Minnesota ((952) 920-8860), ((877) MRI-ASAP), a suburb of Minneapolis. The new imaging center is operated by Soteria Imaging Services, Inc. of Louisville, Kentucky. A grand opening event is planned for Thursday, January 22nd at 7 PM at the LifeScan Minnesota StandUp MRI facility.
Raymond Damadian, M.D, president and founder of FONAR will speak at the event about the creation of MRI and FONAR's newest MRI scanner, the Stand-Up(TM) MRI.

Robert Jones, president of Soteria Imaging said, "Like other extraordinary technological advances, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was created in our lifetime. I recall the early days when mobile MRI scanners used to cross the country in semi-trailers and were often the only way of serving many communities with MRI. Many of those were FONAR scanners."

"The first successful clinical MRI was designed and made by Dr. Damadian who is regarded as the 'Creator of MRI'," said Mr. Jones. "I remember when MRI began to take its place as the premiere imaging modality for most neuro and musculoskeletal applications."

Gary Albers, Vice President of Marketing for Soteria Imaging said, "Physicians are excited about the unique abilities of the high-field Open Stand-Up(TM) MRI. It allows us to perform Position Imaging(TM) (pMRI(TM)) within the context of the most patient-friendly MRI scanner in the industry."

Mr. Jones continued, "The Stand-Up(TM) MRI has revolutionized diagnostic imaging and our ability to care for our patients. On Thursday, January 22, at 7:00 PM, at LifeScan StandUp MRI, we have a rare opportunity to listen, as Dr. Damadian tells of his invention and his newest type of MR scanner. You've seen conventional scanners, with a closed tube design, along with lower field strength open sided scanners, but now Dr. Damadian and FONAR have made it possible to image our patients with high-field strength magnet technology in an upright, standing or seated position. The implications for us and our patients is obvious."

MRI Specialist, Stand-Up, Upright, Position Imaging and pMRI are trademarks of FONAR Corporation.
