American movies and television are (perhaps unfortunately) extraordinarily popular world wide.

And this is what is turning other cultures against us, as Hollywood is a cesspool and influences young people on the negative side. Japanese youth for example, have been negatively impacted by our "entertainment culture", and it is nothing to be proud of.
If we look at things solely in terms of profits, then we are doomed in the long term scheme of things.
