Bushes share spotlight in Florida, D.C.
MIAMI, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush shares some of the spotlight with his big brother and the State of the Union address Tuesday.
The governor outlined a $55.4 billion state budget hours before President Bush was scheduled to deliver his annual speech on the well-being of the United States later in the day.

Florida is crucial to President Bush's re-election campaign this year, and Jeb Bush's budget proposal had an upbeat tone.

The Florida spending plan for 2004-05 increased by $1.4 billion -- 2.6 percent -- over last year and included $139 million in tax breaks.

"While we should applaud our fiscal success, we must recommit ourselves to the principles that brought us here," the governor said.

The budget announcement came 10 hours before the president's speech, which comes a day after the Democratic caucuses in Iowa. The timing was questioned by Democrats who accused Republicans of trying to take the spotlight.
