I think you probably see Bush as a fundamentally decent man because you are approaching it with an owning class perspective. He's been very loyal to the owning class.

Its not this. The guy seems like a normal guy, with flaws, but with an essentially decent view concerning the rights of people to pursue their dreams unhindered. Heck, Bush is way outta line with his push to let illegals work in America without threat of law. Whiskey, Foxtrot, Tango? No one ought to profit from breaking our law, however prevalent the infractions. This is especially true, since so many people suffer as they jump through the proper hoops to get the right that Bush wishes to just hand to the illegals. But, I suspect Bush pushes for the illegals because 1. he is an excellent politician who wants to get the Hispanic vote and 2. he really does understand that illegal folks are here essentially for the same reasons we are here and he wants them to have a shot too.

It is both maddening to me and worthy of some sort of honor.

There are these goofy little things about Bush that are also kinda endearing and that I don't think Bush makes up. In fact, if he makes them up for public consumption then the level of cynicism required for that would be so astronomical that you just gotta love the guy. One of these had to do with Bush's quick Thanksgiving trip to Iraq. Someone asked him how he got in there so easily, without being identified. His response was something like, 'Condie and I put on a big coats, pulled our hats down a bit, and walked arm-in-arm like a real couple.'

I mean even in these modern times thinking you can get around using a black woman as camo is friggin' absurd. Don't you think? But the absurdity obviously never occurred to Bush. The proof of it is the guy put himself on the line.

No dang leftist anywhere would be so colorblind. The leftist would fake the whole thing. Putting the black woman on the face of every newspaper and news spot, the fake cloak-and-dagger encounter being supported by a veritable army of secret-service agents.

I think the difference between you and I is that I can think of some circumstances where regulation is a good thing. For example, in the 60's the lakes and rivers were getting so polluted that it was a hazard to swim in them. After 30 years of regulation, they are now much cleaner than they were. I think about my kids and the world they will live in and I think that is a good thing.

That is not the difference between you and I, Mark. Look. I hate what we have done to the environment and I want it restored as badly as any bunny cuddler. I just do not want to heedlessly pass a bunch of laws that end up destroying the innate rights of others. There is just no way a guy should lose the right to live on his property, simply because a certain animal should decide it wants to live there for a time. There are better ways to encourage environmental support than by harming people by law.
