Westi,

The greatest lesson America's original founders learned in the Old World, their original homelands, was that politics & religion must never mix. Religion is based on emotion & those individuals who pride themselves on strong religious beliefs are usually ready to fight "Crusade" like battles to defend their faith. That fact creates huge problems in a melting pot country like the USA. Toleration of all "non-violent" religions is the only course in this country, if we are to remain a peaceful society. That's why it's unwise for any American to try to impose his religious tenets on someone else. I agree we should insist on a certain level of national morality for the sake of children, but citizens themselves should set those standards--not the government. Citizens have failed to take on that responsibility in past few decades but expect their government to do the job for them.
