maybe you don't understand the definition of "free trade" vs. "immigration"? An entirely different concept.

We do have free trade in engineering. Intel can startup a design center anywhere in the world which they have done. More power to them if they build a better mousetrap there (which they have not done).

Are you really of these collectivist opinions

Yes I am. Intel, Microsoft etc. haven't thrilled me with new product offerings since moving offshore. Therefore, their cries of "inadequately prepared US engineers" rings hollow. What they WANT, which they aren't getting is US quality innovation at Bangalore pricing. I will cite the ****free market****** and say that if these guys want to move all operations offshore, they should feel free to do so. AMD just clobbered intel in the server space with Opteron, with a fraction of the time and staff. Intel is trying to clone opteron, but I suspect it will run hotter and suffer from poor process engineering (just like prescott). Microsoft hasn't released anything worthwhile in 4 years either, Redhat's Apache product will probably take out a chunk of .NET, I suspect msft is a fraction of their current presence in about 4 years. Of course offshore R&D might surprise me so I will reserve judgement for a few more mos and expect to be "wow"ed.
