So you believe that removal of saddam will eliminate the risk of future terror threats against us? What else do you believe in? It may interest you to know that Kristol has said recently that the threat was actually not so severe as he had believed.

"Eliminate" was too strong a word. But it certainly will do more to reduce the risk than would any other action we might have taken. Had it been done during the Clinton years, 9/11 might never have happened. I'm not criticizing Clinton for not having done so, as I don't think that would be a fair criticism; but the removal of Saddam in Clinton's first term, after it was clear he was not going to abide by the terms of the ceasefire, might well have made a difference.

The administration did indeed fail to articulate the rationale honestly.

I do not believe the administration has ever lied about it or misled the public. I do believe that the administration has not clearly shown the public, most of whom cannot think for themselves, the nexus between Saddam and the threat of terrorism on our soil.

Kristol also said Clinton would resign within a week of the Lewinsky story. He was wrong about that, too.
