Business week: "Memory, beyond flash and dram"

businessweek.com

i have to comment.
"Flash memory, which is prevalent in cell phones, retains data even when the power is turned off. But it's two to six times as expensive as DRAM, estimates Nguyen. And it's slow, which makes a pain of such tasks as saving photos on a cell phone. "

Flash and Dram memory price (per MB) are very similar, so it is simply not true that flash (at least nand) is 2 to 6 times more expensive.
About speed, i am very fed up of this speed-talk for flash.
speed is *NOT* an issue in 99.5% of applications.
My vga Mjpeg Fuji camera feeds my CFs (everyone of them, even the 1X 16MB five years old ones) at 1.3 Mbytes/sec and they *ALL* work. any Mpeg4 camera produces one tenth of the data rate.
Besides, cellular phone photos are so small (even the 2mpix ones) that they don't strain flash cards at all.
full stop!

It seems like tai nguyen is a little bit incompetent or has a hidden agenda.
