Yes, your deja vu gene isn't in peak condition but it is working. We had this discussion. I agree with you that the oldsters seem pretty self-absorbed. I think we agreed on that the first time. Of course, the oldsters have spent almost all their years in the nanny state so it's only natural for them to feel entitled.

Where we disagreed before and where we still probably disagree is on the young folks with families. I feel sorry for them having that big FICA chunk taken out of their paychecks. I'd like to see that corrected. Where we disagreed was whether these young folks are entitled to have it all. I think their expectations are too high.

I don't think the Dems would get rid of the child credit or the restore the marriage penalty. That would be suicide. They would just graduate the tax rate more, which wouldn't affect the soccer moms and dads. That is the Dems could. But the Dems aren't going to get control of Congress, which is what it would take to do what you fear. A Dem president couldn't do much in the tax department.

I would make SS a welfare program by means testing it. That would enable the FICA tax to be cut quite a bit over time. That tax money could then go into a retirement savings account. I would also raise the retirement age. I'd like to see some CBO figures on how that might play out in dollars and cents.
