Just a few points:

"1) the stats that you referred to where the stats of income share not buying power"

>>> Correct. Income (proxy for 'wealth') distribution. However, rate of income gains for the bottom 3 or 4 (out of five) population slices have decelerated. I'm sure you will agree.

"2) the only reasonable approach is to look at percentiles without introducing the definition of middle class as an income range. If you introduce it as an income range, as very often done, then you fix the grows rate with it. Example: if you define the middle class income to be at $80K/year then it would remain there by definition"

>>> As I pointed out, the government does not officially define "middle class".

"3) your composition argument is invalid as well because
a) composition did not change enough to account for changes in income - feel free to prove me wrong"

>>> Believe the stats already have.

"b) household income is household income regardless of the sources, you should know that"

>>> Look at hours worked in a two wage-earner family (the norm now) vs. the old norm of one wage earner. Nearly twice the hours.
