John... Re..On the pragmatic side, if there was a significant chance that you might have to spend the next year of your life in Iraq figuring a way to survive, intact; well it brings home the reality of the sacrifice of the war.
So to prove a point, you want to send a bunch of baby faced recruits, who will have a hard time figuring out how to survive, into combat. And you think that will save lives????????? Are you nuts.
Yes we have a mercinary armed forces, damn good ones. They are the best in the world. And now you want to dumb down our armed forces, like you would the Michigan entrance exams. Whats next, are you going to dumb down our police forces, to make sure nobody wants to be a policeman?
But you are right, in that the more you involve people, the more they understand the costs. Why not start with something that isn't so deadly, say the deficit. I know the dems are all of a sudden against big deficits, so then I assume you want the seniors and the poor to pay more, so they quit using free medical services, which make the deficit bigger. It doesn't do any good just to enlarge the taxes on the richest one percent of the population, as they are already paying more, than most. But the poor and seniors often times pay miniscule amounts. |
