QPSA 1.80...not many search engine plays left:

B: Quepasa Search: Next-Generation Proprietary Search Technology
B: Quepasa Search: Next-Generation Proprietary Search Technology for Online Lati

PHOENIX, Jan 20, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Quepasa
Corporation's (OTC Bulletin Board: QPSA) fully proprietary, wholly owned search
platform consists of a complex array of various technologies, all of which have
been architected, designed, and created from the ground up with millions of
dollars of investment. Quepasa is among the first "pure-play" Hispanic-oriented
technology companies in the United States to design, own, and operate
proprietary internet search technologies and related large-scale online
distribution platforms focused exclusively on the online Hispanic market.

The Quepasa internet crawler is designed with directed graph traversal
capability to locate pages primarily relevant to the Hispanic community and is
built around a powerful clustering platform that allows it to scale horizontally
for any number of documents in any span of time, depending on hardware
resources. The crawler obeys all published standards for crawler etiquette and
uses probabilistic methods to determine next-queue-selection.

Quepasa indexing and ranking agents use a large set of methods to mark relevancy
for every word in every document, using data derived from body text, title text,
keywords, citation text, citation authority, word frequency, word location,
"spam" detection variables, and a complex set of other variables that have been
determined through research to contribute to overall relevancy.

Quepasa query agents collate and recalculate the document elements according to
relevancy determination algorithms, which calculate and utilize such important
factors as word proximity, categorical typing, relative rank valuation,
per-document word frequency, and host origin. Like the crawler, the query agent
is also linearly scalable to accommodate traffic. More traffic requires more
hardware -- no additional complexity.

Quepasa result aggregation servers track usage patterns, logging impression and
click statistics, while providing an XML-based client API with which Quepasa
search partners can easily integrate.

The end result of the integration of these agents is a highly effective,
relevant platform for document indexing and retrieval. The platform adds
intelligent file locking, addressing, buffering, and caching semantics to it. It
uses custom-designed hash-based addressing schemes that reduce reliance on disk
seek latency and take advantage of the availability of cheap, abundant, onboard
memory where possible; using intelligent lexical analysis methods and fast set
intersection and union algorithms for effective ranking, making heavy use of
industry-standard MPI to enable near-linear scalability across the system.
Quepasa utilizes the latest innovations in J2EE technology for a stable, secure,
enterprise-class method of client interaction.
