I made no reference to Canada whatsoever. Nor did I make reference to the practicalities of what is worn in certain professions, or where a line might properly be drawn when accommodation is in conflict with compelling state interests. Nor did I make reference to any and all kinds of pressures to assimilate. I referred simply to respecting freedom of religion as a default position that is very strong in the United States, and would make a case like this in France unthinkable as an official position here.........
