hm,

re: Just what makes you think our experienced military commanders and men are out there in Iraq are trying to figure out a way to survive. A good professionally trained soldier, knows very well what to do, and how to survive. It is the rookies, out there on there on their first few missions who fear survival. Seasoned veterans probably very seldom think about it.

That proves that you know nothing about the subject. I guarantee that "seasoned veterans" think about survival first and foremost. Consistent with Armed Services doctrine.

And what makes you think volunteers are better prepared than conscripts? Grunts are grunts, regardless of where they come from.

re: NASCAR

Idiotic analogy.

re: Throwing more barbs at the military I see. After reading you ideas about putting draftees in combat, I don't think you should be calling anybody else dumb.

Give me a break. Are you some kind of liberal PC POS? If Ten gets drafted, you don't think that would up the average IQ in the Armed Services? And they could certainly use some good engineers over there. Funny I don't see any of the unempolyed SV engineers volunteering to help rebuild Irag, they are too busy whining about their jobs going to India.

re: I bought it up because your theory is that, the more something costs, the more people would avoid it.

The most basic conservative dogma. You don't agree?

Participatory Democracy. It's the key to keeping things honest. If there is nothing to lose, you will always get your "chicken-hawks". It's unfair to blame Ten, because it's everybody on this thread (and in this country) that loves this war.

The thing to remember is that it's not Bush's war, it's America's war. The price of democracy is that you and I and Al and Ted and DR are equally responsible for the death of every Iraqi adult and child and every dead or maimed US soldier. It is done in our name, by the people we elected. The blood is on our hands, we own it.

And few if any of us are willing to put our ass on the line in the Iraqi desert. The first person that steps up and says I'm volunteering to go to Iraq because I believe that Iraq is a direct threat to my family, I'll give them the ultimate respect. But frankly, I don't see anyone here that's ready to defend the homeland in Iraq. Just a bunch of bluster and pretend intellectual debate.

Your tax paid proxy may be alive, he/she may have died, he/she may have lost a limb be blind or be crazy. The National Guard folks that just wanted to collect $300 a month to play weekend warrior have been in Iraq for a year. Are they going to re-up, is anybody new going to join the National Guard?

My (WAG) prediction... assuming Bush wins, and assuming he can't extricate the military from Iraq (the Iraq civil war), Bush WILL propose we reinstate the draft.

The fact is, the "chicken-hawk" term has never been as appropriate.

John
