US is tied up in Iraq and US traditionally wanted Israel to stay away in order to not piss off arabs. It is definitely possible that US would take measures against Hizbulah and Syria but the article was talking about some sort of provocation which sounded more like a paranoid rumor from some left organization in London. We do not need to provoke Syria or Hizbullah because they have done more than enough already to justify attack or even invasion.
