I suppose the lengths that Americans go to in order to preserve religious freedom would seem strange in Europe. For example, Native Americans are allowed to use peyote - a hallucinogen - in their religious ceremonies, although it is otherwise illegal to use peyote in the United States. That was the result of a case in the United States Supreme Court. The United States Supreme Court also struck down an ordinance that prohibited practitioners of Santeria from animal sacrifices.

But these are just one aspect of our First Amendment. France and Germany both seem to be able to ban political speech which the government finds offensive, and so does Canada, now that I think about it. Apparently the governments can ban Neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers?
