I began to listen to Limbaugh a years ago and found him sometimes entertaining, but not for long. It was obvious that he was taking, or creating, a sentence or a position that he disagreed with, postulating an even more extreme position, and then assailing that position and the persons he claimed held it with savage attacks, not just on their position, but on THEM.

The unfairness and its polarizing effect repelled me and the fact that he did it intentionally disgusted me, but he apparently found an eager audience. Not only did he find near hysterical support among many who leaned toward his message, his monetary success bred many mini-Limbaughs who used the same "over the top," straw man techniques. I think a big part of the radicalism we see now on both sides of the political spectrum finds its roots in talk radio.

At some point we'll all need to start celebrating our common values and common goals and stop demonizing any who disagree. My wife used to make our kids find ten things they liked about each other when they were arguing. Someone ought to tell that to Bush, Cheney and Limbaugh.
