"It has to be one or the other." Fate is more of a Greek concept. I believe that God determines everything that is, so in that sense I believe in determinism. I don't believe in "fatalistic" determinism. That might seem like a distinction without a difference but to me, the idea of purpose gives meaning. The alternative is to existentially derive your own meaning from what you do. I have never seen that carried out to where it did not lead to either despotism or despair. Rather like being sucked into the nihilistic vortex of the toilette bowl of life. On that cheery thought ;) I am off for the weekend. Have a meaningful day. Greg
