I agree with you that meat-eating is a very addictive habit. Thirty years ago it was much more difficult to become a vegetarian, but even now, with all the products and awareness of cooking methods to do so, the task remains prohibitive for many.

That's very true. It's better now that it used to be, but surprisingly, I still find it difficult to eat in most restaurants -- except for those which cater to a fairly large vegetarian clientele. Indian and Asian restaurants tend to be good bets. Worst are places that serve "family dining" (definitely to be avoided by vegetarians). Most times those places have only dinners that are designed around some cut of meat. It leaves me resorting to salads (often terrible things with a few lettuce leaves, a slice of tomato and cucumber), or a baked potato. Sometimes, being a vegetarian feels a bit like...hmmm...maybe being a Martian. (o:

In my travels throughout N.A., the easiest places to find good vegetarian is usually in areas around university campuses.
