A draft should only be used when the country is indeed in dire danger and we need to call up as many troops as possible. Dire danger is indeed the centerpiece of every speech by gw. Our troops have not been as strained as they are today since WW2, when practically every able bodied man in the nation volunteered to fight. Today we have to buy their service to preserve the luxury of the many to stay home and "support" the war. That kind of passive support desensitizes people relative to war, because it has no effect on them, other then to stimulate their empathy....unfortunately some have a keener sense of empathy than others.
