Hmmm. Well, you clearly don't know all the vicissitudes of cousinry. Your father's cousin is also your cousin, only in a different configuration. Instead of being just a first cousin, he may be a first cousin once removed. These distinctions are too important to trust to the mere males of a family, so don't feel bad.
